American River Rafting - The North Fork

THE NORTH FORK OF THE AMERICAN RIVER –

This first-class section of the American River is no joke. Only California whitewater rafting experts have chances in doing this one. Very technical (means you have to have not only read about, but been through plenty actual Class 04 challenges in real life), so bring your experience and your luck with you. Being rated almost Class 05, this is the most challenging fork of the American River. Though the entire length of this section is only 9.5 miles, you will definitely have to put serious work in, no sloppy paddling will get you though here. California whitewater rafting available April through May, however, more accurate time intervals depend on snow quantities and the melt rates.

Tight canyon, more than 2000 feet deep, offers endless waterfall areas, amazing crystal clear water, flourishing plant life, which extends from the incredible heights down to riverside cliffs. Meanwhile, streams from the nearby canyon tumble down into the American River, adding more power to the already great California whitewater rafting rapids.

From the very beginning to the end, sheer excitement is what this is all about. Check in at the Chamberlain Falls Gorge, and be carried away the first rapid, called the Slaughter’s Sluice. Tighten the teamwork, because this section requires utmost precision, if you do not want to end up getting smashed into the rocks. And watch out for the 7 foot Chamberlain Falls itself. Downstream, however, is packed with nothing ordinary, Class 04-05 boulders and steep drops; like the Zig-Zag, Staircase, Achilles Heel or Bogus Thunder. By the time you will be through, it will seem like you have conquered an entire country in Central America. It is that effort-consuming.
